Urban Surrey Garden

Back and front garden redesign following significant renovation and extension of the property.

Driven by our clients brief to embrace the extended view through the property to the woodland beyond, we have made use of the strong vertical lines created by the woodland contrasting with elongated, horizontal forms in the design. Allowing the eye to pause and enjoy the interest within the space before being drawn out in to the broader landscape.

Approaching the house from the street you first spot a beautiful specimen Acer griseum with its attractive papery, peeling bark, emerging from the gravel garden which offers changing planting to frame the house. It quietly exudes its presence on the street and provides a tantalising glimpse of what is to come in the house and garden behind.

Stepping in to the back garden on to the generous entertaining terrace which seamlessly links with the interior open plan living area, your eye moves across the space. Soft, billowing planting is punctuated by Verbascum 'Cotswold Beauty' and later by Kniphofia 'Tawney King' with their upright flowing habit to create an exciting and changing feel. Three bespoke water features emerge from the planting their solidity providing structure and permanence to the space and flickers of light to the observer.
