Lakeside Retreat
A cubist inspired boutique hotel in Surrey. The emphasis of our design is on embracing native landscapes and habitats while enjoying the luxury of the hotel and its facilities.

Guests access the 14 acre site via a wooded driveway and are greeted in a clearing offering glimpses through to the site beyond. From here they are taken by buggy to their luxury accommodation, located in the woodlands or within the newly sculpted grassland landscape. There are numerous pathways to explore, taking guests around the site and the lake where they can join the boardwalk traversing the wetland area towards a raised cocktail bar offering views across the river. The service entrance is completely separate and screened from guests while allowing immediate access to the main building.
We have taken cues from the buildings cubist inspired architecture to inform elements of the geometry and mass of our design, in a subtle way without detracting or overpowering its impact. This more formal and rectilinear influence is counterbalanced by a designed landscape which has been handled with less intervention and by embracing ideas from the broader natural landscape and habitats of the area. We think this contrast provides a modern and exciting setting for this significant building whilst also referring back to its origins as a design to be located in a natural woodland.
